Commonplace book, [ca. 1829-1844].

Manuscript, in various hands and formal scripts, of a collection of poems and drawings, entries dated from 1829 to 1844, probably belonging to a woman. Several short stanzas, unattributed and untiled, on various elegaic, romantic, pastoral, religious and occasional themes. Several by C.E.S. and by M.C. McK. Includes an excerpt from Milton's "Paradise Lost;" "On Leaving England" and others by Lord Byron; a few poems by Moore. Others by James Montgomery, Elizabeth Aune Callander, Charlotte MacKenzie, H.R. White, A. McK., C.F.C., W.B., and other initialed poems. One in French, titled "Napoleon a Ste. Helene." Contains 33 drawings, including: portraits and landscapes in pencil with color accents; floral watercolors; birds and butterflies in watercolor on matted Japanese paper; Canterbury Cathedral and other architectural sketches; an engraving of a dog, entitled "Beppo," dated 1830.
